September 2026 Is Packed With Games Trying To Avoid GTA 6

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to finally arrive (and very quickly break every video game sales record ever recorded) on November 19. That’s exciting if you’re looking forward to playing it, but quite a threat if you’re trying to release any other games in that window. It seems the whole industry got the memo: Release your games many weeks before that, and improve your chance at finding an audience. September filled up quite a bit more following the recent Sony State of Play on June 2, so we’ve broken down just how busy you’ll be if you plan to play everything September has to offer.

On September 3, the new fantasy RPG from former CD Projekt Red devs, The Blood of Dawnwalker, kicks off the month and looks to meet players’ great expectations. Not a week later, on September 8, the duo that made Friday The 13th: The Game, Gun Media and Illfonic, are getting the band back together to release Halloween, a new 4v1 multiplayer horror game. On that same day, a new souls-like by the name of Phantom Blade Zero makes its debut, too.

Hopefully, you’ll hit credits on each of those within a week, as Marvel’s Wolverine hits PS5 on September 15 as the next big game from Insomniac. It’s maybe less notable that a month includes a new Warhammer game, since that seems to be the case every month, but September 17 brings us Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV. A few days later, on June 22, Dune Awakening moves over to PS5 after first launching on PC last year.
