Man jailed for cheating Grab of over k through loophole in courier service

SINGAPORE – A man was taken to task over his role in a ruse to cheat GrabTaxi Holdings into paying for delivery jobs that were not done, from which he obtained more than $18,000.

On May 21, Alex Wang Xiang Yi, 30, was sentenced to 13 months and 16 weeks in jail.

He pleaded guilty to 14 charges, including multiple cheating charges and unrelated charges under the Road Traffic Act. Wang will also be disqualified from driving for two years from the date of his release.

Wang was among four men charged on Nov 28, 2025, over cheating the company, causing it to incur more than $58,000 in losses, the police said in November 2025.

The court heard that 5,540 fraudulent transactions were made.

Wang is the third man to be jailed for his role in the ruse. In March, Dzulqarnain Muhamad, 35, was sentenced to seven months’ jail. In April, Loh Jing Jie, 33, was given 10 weeks’ jail.

The case involving the fourth man, Lee Yong Ze, is still before the courts.
