Even though Star Wars is set in a galaxy far, far away and a long time ago, it consists of many fascinating pieces of technology. Some, like Luke’s prosthetic arm and the hologram tech used to project Leia’s message, have been somewhat realised thanks to advances in technology. Imagine being able to recover from serious cuts and burns simply by being immersed in a healing liquid. That’s exactly what a Bacta tank does. First seen in The Empire Strikes Back, when Luke is sent to recover from the Wampa, Bacta tanks are large vessels filled with the Bacta healing agent, where patients are completely submerged and use breathing masks during treatment. Used in hospitals and on capital ships, they could treat numerous injuries across many species. Some notable users of bacta tanks included Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Grievous. Imagine just how fast we would heal and how many lives could be saved if Bacta tanks were real.
