Serangoon hit-and-run: 46-year-old male driver arrested for drink driving, Singapore News


A 46-year-old male driver was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in a case of hit-and-run on Good Friday (April 3) morning.

The incident happened at about 12.40am at the junction of Serangoon North Avenue 1 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

Ground checks by AsiaOne show that road diversions are in place along the busy stretch of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 due to the ongoing Cross Island Line construction. 

Videos of the incident sent to AsiaOne show a motorcycle fallen on its side at the rightmost lane of the road, with a motorcyclist seen sitting up against a safety barricade.

A blue compact hatchback is also seen stopped against the flow of traffic as a man, dressed in light blue jeans and a white shirt, came out of the car.

Two other motorists were seen running towards the injured motorcyclist to render assistance.

Moments later, the man is seen briefly running towards his car before driving off. He was seen crashing into safety barricades at the roadside several times as he drove off with a badly damaged front bumper.

Smoke was also seen coming out from the front of his vehicle.

In response to AsiaOne’s queries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said a 38-year-old male motorcyclist was taken conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Police also confirmed that the 46-year-old male car driver had left the scene before their officers arrived at the scene, adding that he was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Investigations are ongoing.
