Pokemon Legends: Z-A is being review bombed, which has dragged down its user score significantly. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the latest entry in the long-running Pokemon franchise, and it has earned mostly positive reviews from critics. While it hasn’t scored quite as high as the groundbreaking Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Pokemon Legends: Z-A reviews have been a lot stronger than Scarlet and Violet, which stand as the lowest-rated games in the series.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A reviews have praised the return of Mega Evolutions and the fun core gameplay loop, while criticizing the game’s pacing and lackluster graphics compared to its peers. On review aggregate site Metacritic, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has earned a 79 overall rating with 57 reviews counted so far, down from the 83 that it started with.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Negative Reviews
The Pokemon Legends: Z-A user score, meanwhile, is significantly lower than the critic score. At the time of this writing, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has a 4.1 user rating, with 61% negative reviews, 29% mixed, and 30% positive. While there are some legitimate negative user reviews, there are also many that have given the game a 0/10 or 1/10, which most would agree is not really reasonable, even if one dislikes the game. These reviews mention things like The Pokemon Company’s “greed,” the “laziness” of the game, and in some cases, Nintendo’s ongoing and highly controversial Palworld lawsuit. It seems the review bombing is more a way to critique the handling of the Pokemon franchise in recent years as opposed to genuine assessments of the game’s quality, though that doesn’t mean there aren’t legitimate gripes.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been the subject of significant backlash that has only gotten worse since it hit store shelves. Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s presentation has been under a great deal of scrutiny, with many complaining that the repeated, flat textures and lack of voice acting makes it feel cheap despite being part of the most successful media franchise of all time. Indeed, it was claimed by former Nintendo employees that Pokemon Legends: Z-A only needs to sell 200,000 units to break even, suggesting that the game’s budget was relatively low compared to other triple-A games on the market.
The recent Pokemon leaks have thrown more fuel on the fire. It seems the upcoming Generation 10 Pokemon games and the massive 4-region Pokemon remake project are especially ambitious, which has left some fans feeling underwhelmed with what Z-A brings to the table. Still, with Pokemon Legends: Z-A having only just released, it’s highly unlikely that the 0/10 review scores were left by people that actually finished the game. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how the score changes as time goes on.
