Tesla has a new variant of its popular Model Y SUV. It’s called the Model Y L, and it stands out from the rest of the range by having a third row of seats.
Keen readers would probably have guessed by now that the “L” in Model Y L stands for “long wheelbase”. Indeed, this car’s wheelbase has been stretched by 150mm. Overall length is now just shy of 5m – 4.969m to be exact.
The styling hasn’t changed much. In fact, if you don’t look closely, you might not even realise you are looking at a Model Y with three rows of seats. The visual giveaways are the integrated rear spoiler and the slightly longer three-quarters panel. Customers can also spec their Model Y L with the variant-exclusive Cosmic Silver paint.
The Model Y L appears to be a strict 6-seater. The best seats are in the second row.

Inside, the second row seats are captain chairs that are electrically powered and ventilated. It’s not quite as plush as some of its rivals, but they are still the most comfortable seats in the house.
