74 arrested, over 2.5kg of cannabis seized in 5-day drug blitz

SINGAPORE – A total of 74 people were arrested in a five-day drug bust, where more than 2.5kg of cannabis was seized, among other drugs.

In a statement on Oct 17, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said the anti-drug blitz took place from Oct 13 to 17, and covered areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Balestier, Clementi, Punggol, Woodlands and Yishun.

The drugs seized were 2,504g of cannabis, 158g of ketamine, 76g of heroin, 73g of Ice (methamphetamine), 12g of Ecstasy and 40 Erimin-5 tablets.

Numerous vape-related products, including 42 e-vaporiser pods believed to contain etomidate, were also seized.

The drugs are estimated to be worth more than $68,000, and the heroin, Ice and cannabis seized could feed the addiction of 436 abusers for a week, the CNB said.

Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.

Among the 74 arrested was a 26-year-old woman, who was held for suspected drug trafficking offences near Clementi Avenue 1 on Oct 15. She was with her 19-month-old daughter during the arrest.

During a search of the woman, CNB officers found seven e-vaporiser pods and two e-vaporisers believed to contain etomidate.

The bureau added that arrangements were made to ensure the welfare of her daughter.

In a separate incident, CNB officers intercepted a motorcycle at a junction in Yishun Avenue 1 on the evening of Oct 13 and arrested the rider, a 36-year-old Singaporean man, for suspected drug trafficking offences.

They found a total of 2,369g of cannabis, 156g of ketamine, 11g of Ice, 11g of Ecstasy, 40 Erimin-5 tablets and drug paraphernalia.

Investigations are ongoing.
