Now they’re shining like they’re born to be
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is getting its next booster pack, Mega Shine, on March 25. The new pack adds Mega shiny Pokémon to the game for the first time, with Mega Charizard X and Mega Gengar acting as the set’s stars.
Over the past year, Pokémon TCG Pocket has slowly expanded the kinds of rare monsters available in each set. Shiny Pokémon came to the card-collecting game last March, while Mega Pokémon entered the fold in October. Mega Shine will bring those two together for a set loaded with rare cards.
A short reveal trailer gives a glimpse at some of the cards you’ll be able to collect. While Mega Charizard X and Mega Gengar are the big names, you’ll also be able to nab shiny versions of Dragonair, Ponyta, Pineco, and Zorua. Some non-shiny cards are coming to the set too, including Phione and a new full-art Empoleon. A press release also teases new “dynamic” cards, which shimmer when tilted.
Aside from those, the set is a bit of a mystery. The trailer doesn’t tease any new tool or stadium cards. We do see a quick glance of a new trainer card, though, as Calem from Pokémon X and Y is coming to the game.
A bunch of the game’s usual events are coming with the update too. A Slowpoke-themed drop event will happen in April, as will a Wonder Pick event centered around Gastly and Wigglytuff. More interesting is an upcoming Community Week event, which will give players new accessories and hourglasses if they share and trade cards with friends. It sounds like a really good excuse for someone to give me a Mega Ampharos ex.
Mega Shine will be available in Pokémon TCG Pocket on March 25 at 6 p.m. PDT/9 p.m. EDT.
