Pokemon TCG Just Revealed Its Newest Mega Legendary Pokemon Card

The Pokemon Trading Card Game has officially revealed the newest set coming to the card game in Japan, featuring the Mega Evolution of Zygarde as its spotlight creature. The newest era of the beloved TCG has taken plenty of inspiration from the most recent game in the franchise, including lots of Pokemon used within Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Mega Evolution welcomed the return of the titular mechanic to the Pokemon TCG for the first time since 2016, including Mega forms of beloved Pokemon like Gardevoir, Lucario, and Charizard. Now, Pokemon has even more exciting Legends: Z-A content coming to the TCG.

The Mega Evolution era of the Pokemon TCG has already seen multiple sets released, welcoming Mega Pokemon back to the TCG in style. Beyond the expected Mega Pokemon, plenty of past Pokemon protagonists and major characters have received new cards, including Lillie, Dawn, and Wally, among several others. The card game’s newest era has also introduced a brand-new rarity to the game, with the elusive Mega Hyper Rare cards replacing the previous Hyper Rares with greatly reduced pull rates. The Pokemon TCG is now teasing its next big set in Japan, finally adding Mega Zygarde to the game.

The Pokemon Company showcased the new Munikis Zero set coming to the Pokemon TCG in Japan, teasing Mega Zygarde alongside multiple other cards. Mega Zygarde ex will serve as the spotlight Pokemon for the set, featuring powerful Attacks that either reduce an opponent’s damage or potentially deal up to 900 damage. Mega Zygarde was not the only new ex Pokemon shown during the livestream, with Meowth ex allowing players to search their decks for Supporter cards. New cards for Binacle and Barbaracle were also shown during the event, looking to provide some powerful Energy support for Fighting-type decks. The Pokemon TCG’s Munikis Zero expansion will release in Japan on January 23.

The new Pokemon revealed for Munikis Zero were joined by a collection of powerful Trainer cards coming to the TCG. Two new Supporter cards based on Pokemon Legends: Z-A characters will be joining the game, with Naveen allowing players to reset their hands while Tarragon recycles Fighting Pokemon and Energies from the discard pile. Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Lumiose City is also getting a new Stadium card within the set, allowing either player to get a Basic Pokemon from the deck to the Bench at the cost of ending their turn. Fighting Pokemon are even getting a new Special Energy card, negating the non-damage effects of attacks from an opponent’s Pokemon.
