Treated Like Cattle is a quest in Divinity: Original Sin 2 where players have to help two people who have been turned into cows by an evil witch turn back into their human selves by bringing them an elusive potion hidden somewhere in the Witch’s House.
Curing both of the cows of their affliction requires two potions, but unfortunately, there appears to be only one of these to go around. This guide covers the exact location of the Witch’s Potion, the method of making a second one, as well as all possible ways Treated Like Cattle can be completed, and the rewards that can be obtained.

How to Start Treated Like Cattle in Divinity: Original Sin 2
Treated Like Cattle Location
In The Meadows north of Driftwood, there are two cows, Geraldine and Mabel, standing in an open field next to the Witch House (X:340, Y:240). Use a character with the Pet Pal Talent to talk to them to discover that they are actually two people who have been turned into cows by the Witch Alice Alisceon.
Geraldine and Mabel will ask you to help them turn back into their real selves by bringing them the Witch’s Potion, the only thing that can reverse the curse cast upon them by the Witch. The two cows will tell you that the Witch’s Potion can be found in the Witch House.
How to Get the Witch’s Potion in Divinity: Original Sin 2
Witch’s Potion Location
The Witch House is located right next to where you find the cows (X:375, Y:224), and will be marked on your map with a yellow flag once you trigger the quest. It’s the house with the large frog on the porch.
To enter, pick up the Witch’s House Key in front of the entrance (use the highlight objects hotkey to locate it). Use the key to open the door next to the frog and enter the house.
Find the hatch leading down to the basement in the room next to the bedroom. Have a character with 4 Thievery use a lockpick to unlock the hatch to enter the Witch House Cellar.
If you cannot lockpick the cellar hatch, you can find a key for it by killing Alice Alisceon in Cloisterwood and looting her body.
The Witch House Cellar is teeming with exploding rats. These rats spawn from rat holes located on the walls in the cellar. To deal with the rats, you’ll need to close the rat holes by destroying them using attacks. There are five rat holes in total, one in the first room and four in the second. Use a character with a ranged skill, like a Mage or an Archer, to close the rat holes from afar without getting overrun by the rats.
Once all the rats are dealt with, activate the lever in the second room to open the metal grate leading to the final room.
Pick up the Witch’s Potion from the shelf in the corner of the room, behind the table and chair. This is the potion the cows are looking for. However, since it is only a single dosage, it can only cure one of them.

How to Craft the Witch’s Potion in Divinity: Original Sin 2
Witch’s Potion Recipe
Kill the giant blue frog (Zppt) in the electrified cell in the cellar (300XP) and loot its body to find a book titled Witch’s Potion’s Notes. If you have a character with the Mystic and Scholar tags, they will be able to read this book to decipher the recipe for the Witch’s Potion that can be used to cure Geraldine and Mabel.
Only Fane has both Mystic and Scholar tags in DOS2. Since you cannot change tags using the Magic Mirror respec feature, this means there is no way to decipher the book if you do not have him in your party (or do not have a custom character with these tags already).

How to Cure Geraldine and Mabel in Divinity: Original Sin 2
How to Turn Geraldine and Mabel into Humans in DOS2
The curse on Geraldine and Mabel can be lifted, and they can return to their human forms by drinking the potion. Depending on the game state and how many potions you have in your inventory, this interaction can go a few different ways.
- If you have one Witch’s Potion in your inventory: Give Geraldine or Mabel the Witch’s Potion to lift the curse from one of them (13450XP). Treated Like Cattle quest will not close until you bring a second potion to heal the other cow. You’ll earn 13450XP a second time when you use the second potion for a total of 26900XP.
- If you have two Witch’s Potions in your inventory: Give both Geraldine and Mabel one Witch’s Potions each to lift the curse from both of them (13450XP).
- If you use Persuasion to ask for a reward: Mabel will agree to sell you books for free, and Geraldine will offer to tell you the location of a secret stash of treasure. However, this will reduce the experience reward for healing either cow from 13450XP to 8075XP.
Geraldine’s stash is located inside a dirt mound north of the Gallows, behind the windmill (X:437, Y:182). You’ll find this stash here regardless of whether he tells you of its location or not.
Divinity Original Sin 2: Best Builds For Ifan
A soldier with a dark past looking for redemption, Ifan ben Mezd has the potential to be Divinity Original Sin 2’s most powerful character.
Use One Witch’s Potion to Cure Both Cows in DOS2
There is an exploit in Divinity: Original Sin 2 where you can use a single Witch’s Potion (the one obtained from the basement) to heal both of the cows. With this method, not only will you not have to craft a Witch’s Brewed Potion to cure the other cow, you will earn the full 26900XP. Here’s how it works:
- Pick up the Witch’s Potion from the Witch House Cellar.
- Talk to Geraldine and Mabel and progress the dialogue until you are at the dialogue screen that says “Feed Geraldine the potion/Feed Mabel the potion.”
- Switch to another party member, open the inventory, find the Witch’s Potion, move it to this character’s bag, and drop it on the ground.
- Switch to the character who is talking to Geraldine and Mabel and select the dialogue option “Feed Geraldine/Mabel the potion.” This will cure one of the cows and return them to their human form.
- Pick up the Witch’s Potion from where you dropped it on the ground, talk to the remaining cow, and feed them the potion to heal them too.
