In the early part of this year, we had the opportunity to spend a short time with the Huawei Mate XT tri-folding smartphone.
Although we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with it, Huawei previously stated that it wasn’t available for purchase in Singapore at the time. Tragic.

It’s finally here, but…
In a surprise move, Huawei said it’s finally bringing the Huawei Mate XT | Ultimate Design to our sunny shores. Before you get too excited, we’d like to bring out some details to your attention.
Singapore is late to the party, as it only received the Mate XT eight months after our ASEAN counterparts (Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, etc.) and more than a year after its China debut.
Not helping this push is that Huawei already launched its second tri-fold phone for the China market, which meant that users and fans would likely be looking forward to a new tri-fold, and not its previous one.
The one silver lining is that the Mate XT’s official price for Singapore is significantly lower than its launch prices. Looking across the causeway, the Mate XT started at RM14,999 (~S$4,500), and our Mate XT is 22% less expensive at an official price of S$3,498.
Tri-fold recap

In case you’ve forgotten what this tri-fold phone packs, it has a tablet-like 10.2-inch display and can be folded into a regular smartphone form factor with a 6.4-inch display size. These OLED displays support up to a 90Hz refresh rate.
Inside, you get Huawei’s own Kirin 9010 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage.
The 5,600mAh battery can charge at 66W (wired), and Huawei has managed to split it into three separate power cells for each of the phone’s three panels to maximise the use of space.
Unfortunately, there’s no Google Mobile Services as is par for the course now. The phone runs on Huawei’s EMUI 14.2, which is based on Android 12.
Apps can be downloaded via Huawei’s own AppGallery app store (tip: learn about it here). The Google Play Store can be (unofficially) obtained via the GBox app, which allows you to get access to Android apps that have not been ported over to AppGallery.
The rear cameras include a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with 5.5x optical zoom. Check out our hands-on story for some sample images.
Singapore pricing and availability

The Huawei Mate XT is priced at S$3,498, which is cheaper than what the phone is retailing for in Malaysia (RM14,999, approx. S$4,500). Although it is $1,000 cheaper, this model is technically already outdated due to the new (China-only) Mate XTs.
However, it doesn’t change the fact that the tri-fold feels great to use, as captured in our hands-on experience.
