Just two months after its launch, Borderlands 4 has officially reached a lower player count on Steam than its mainline predecessors did in the same amount of time. According to Steam Charts, Borderlands 4‘s 24-hour peak player count on November 10, 2025, only two days shy of its two-month anniversary, was just under 20,000. While that might sound like a high number, when compared to its all-time peak at launch, it’s a significant drop.
To some players who are currently unhappy with the state of Borderlands 4, this may come as no surprise. Despite its live-service trappings, the latest Borderlands title has struggled to keep fans interested long-term. But what makes Borderlands 4‘s latest Steam player count such a big deal is not just how low it is, but how much of its player base the game has lost since launch in comparison to the numbers pulled by the mainline entries that came before it.
Borderlands 4 Has Lost More Steam Players in Two Months Than Its Predecessors Did
As of November 10, Borderlands 4‘s 24-hour peak shows a 93% loss in its Steam player count in only two months. Taking into account the series’ past player counts, this means that the latest entry in Gearbox’s beloved franchise has lost over 10% more of its player base than Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3 did in their first two months.
The original Borderlands is too old to gather reliable player count data from Steam, but since its player count was likely considerably lower than its successors, any drop in its first two months was presumably not as significant as Borderlands 4‘s.
