New market for seaside town approved

The scheme, which is a partnership between Withernsea Town Council and East Riding Council, seeks to support the redevelopment and enhancement of key seafront locations.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the proposals said the small retail units would be offered at “incentivised low-cost rates to support start-up and cottage industry businesses”.

The plans said that the market would have set minimum opening requirements across the year and the kiosks would be able to sell goods between 07:00 and 21:00.

The notice also specifies that “no kiosk shall be used or occupied as living accommodation, as a person’s main or sole place of residence, or as a place for overnight sleeping”.

The planning documents said that the town council had received “overwhelming support” from the community.

There were also no objections from local businesses during the consultation or initial planning applications.
