Singapore embassy rejects claims of meeting with Indonesian figures, says it’s ‘disinformation’

JAKARTA: The Singapore embassy in Jakarta has rejected social media claims that two prominent Indonesian figures, former deputy foreign minister Dino Patti Djalal and political researcher Saiful Mujani, visited the Singapore ambassador’s residence, adding that it is “clearly disinformation”.

In a statement on Oct 25, the embassy said it would work with Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to address the false claims, which alleged that the two men had visited the residence on Oct 18.

“The Embassy is aware of social media posts containing false statements claiming that Professor Saiful Mujani and Dr Dino Patti Djalal had visited the residence of the Ambassador of Singapore to Indonesia on 18 October 2026,” it said.

“No such visit took place. This is clearly disinformation, which the Embassy will work with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia to address.”

The claims surfaced days after Dino questioned accusations by former Indonesian trade minister Muhammad Lutfi that Singapore’s investment entities, GIC and Temasek, had pressured global index provider MSCI to downgrade Indonesia’s stock market status so foreign investors could buy Indonesian assets cheaply.

Social media posts had circulated in Indonesia alleging that the two men had visited the residence of Singapore’s ambassador, Kwok Fook Seng, on the evening of Oct 18.

Some of the posts were accompanied by footage showing the area outside the Singapore embassy in Jakarta, with claims suggesting that the two Indonesian figures had met Singaporean officials.
