Lando Norris will not face any sporting repercussion for the collision he had with McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in the Singapore sprint after the team discussed the matter further between Formula 1 races.
Norris attempted to pass Piastri for fourth place on the last lap of the sprint race in Singapore, with his over-optimistic move into the Turn 5 right-hander catching Piastri by surprise.
They collided, Norris dropped to eighth and Piastri retired – leaving team principal Andrea Stella extremely frustrated and even going as far as saying that he was not interested in apologies.
As this happened mid-weekend McLaren parked the issue and Stella said it still needed further discussions after Singapore. Ahead of this week’s United States Grand Prix, McLaren’s preview included a quote from Norris in which he said: “I take responsibility for my mistakes, and I learn from them.
“This team is my motivation every weekend, and my aim is to repay the hard work everyone puts in by improving, making better decisions, and representing the team in the best possible way.”
This is understood to be McLaren’s way of drawing a line under the matter.
