Passengers onboard a SMRT bus were forced to alight at Punggol after the back of the vehicle started emitting smoke on Friday (Oct 16) night.

A video posted on social media shows more than 10 passengers getting off the vehicle calmly at a bus stop after Punggol Road. Some of them can be seen going back into the bus to tap their EZ-Link cards.

The incident occurred on SMRT bus service 110, which plys the Buangkok-Changi Airport route.

In response to AsiaOne’s queries, SMRT Buses said smoke was seen coming from the engine compartment of a service 110 bus travelling along TPE at about 9.15pm on Friday.

The bus captain stopped at the next bus stop and alerted SMRT’s bus operations control centre, said SMRT Buses deputy managing director Vincent Gay.

All 30 passengers were safely transferred to the next bus to continue their journey. No injuries were reported.
