Swap Mobile launches in Singapore

Swap Mobile, a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), just announced its launch Singapore. At its core, the MVNO’s 5G and 4G network plans reinvent how mobile data and phone ownership are treated.

Its core offerings include the option to switch to different phones every six months, adjusting your SIM’s plan allotments to your liking, choosing between basic or enhanced Screen Crack Protection, and real human support for your plan usage and swapping journey.

Let’s get into the meat of this new operator.

What’s Swap Mobile, and what backbone network is it running on?

Those were our first questions too, and Swap Mobile made that clear during its launch event and on its online platforms.

Swap Mobile is part of Swap Asia, a telecommunications company headquartered in Malaysia (Petaling Jaya, Selangor). A quick LinkedIn scan showed that Swap Mobile’s headcount includes many seasoned professionals from the telco or smartphone industry, as well as other local businesses. Its Chief Operating Officer (also Executive Director under Swap Telecommunications) previously worked at StarHub, and other employees previously worked at places like Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, NinjaVan, and even Apple.

“Having spent many years in Singapore’s telecommunications industry, including more than six years with StarHub, I have seen how mature and sophisticated this market has become. Consumers here are already highly connected and digitally confident. Singapore consumers don’t need another provider simply competing to give them more gigabytes. The market has moved beyond that. Our ambition is to build a mobile relationship that becomes more useful over time. Connectivity is the starting point, not the end point. We want customers to have greater control at their fingertips, while still ensuring real support is available whenever they need it. That balance between digital convenience and human support is an important part of how we want Swap Mobile to grow in Singapore.”

Wong Peng Yew, Executive Director, Swap Telecommunications

Swap Mobile’s connectivity runs on StarHub’s network, offering SIM and eSIM options and 5G and 4G mobile data services. Also bundled with each plan is APAC roaming data (10GB if you take 4G network plans, 25GB if you take 5G network plans) and global roaming data (10GB for 5G network plans), all at no extra cost.

On the device side, the MVNO also lets users bundle a phone with their Swap Mobile SIM plan, with the option to buy it outright or bill it monthly with the phone line. You can also use its 24-month Device Subscription package, which lets you switch and try different phones every six months or pay to own the device outright.

You can change mobile plans, device usage, and other troubleshooting needs primarily through Swap Mobile’s app, online via a web browser, or by contacting human support via a hotline. The latter is uncommon for MVNOs, where its plan servicing and support options are primarily chatbots or in-app messages.
