As announced by ViewQwest and as shown on its official website, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) now offers a 100Gbps fibre broadband plan for residential use. No, it’s not an aggregate number, marketing fluff, or the discovery of previously unannounced technologies. It’s true 100Gbps in your home, with the help of enterprise-level networking equipment.

The ISP said that this plan is for users who need to work with “very large models” (the AI kind, of course), archives, and backups, where multi-gigabit dataset transfers and media production are the norm.

A quick sense check with FCDServers (a global IT services and hosting provider with servers in Singapore) tells us just as much. 100Gbps use cases are typically seen in academia (where research moves large amounts of data), or for CDNs (content delivery network servers) hosting huge files on the Internet. It’s also used to handle terabytes of data churned out by AI model training and to create massive recovery backup copies.
