JBL has launched the Cove, a new range of Wi-Fi speakers built for whole-home audio. The line-up consists of three models: the compact Cove M1 (S$399), the battery-powered Cove P1 (S$659) and the flagship Cove X1 (S$799). Each works on its own, as a stereo pair, or as part of a multi-room system controlled through the JBL One app.
It is a clear move into territory long dominated by Sonos, whose Era 100 SL and portable Sonos Play launched here earlier this year at S$349 and S$549 respectively.
Three speakers, one system
The JBL P1 has a built-in battery and a claimed battery life of up to 14 hours.

The Cove M1 is the entry point into the lineup, being a compact speaker with three tweeters and a woofer for everyday listening. The Cove P1 is the portable option, adding an up-firing tweeter for Dolby Atmos, an IP56 rating against dust and water, and up to 14 hours of battery life, plus it recharges when you drop it back on its dock. The Cove X1 sits at the top of the proverbial pile with four tweeters, one of them up-firing, and dual woofers for Dolby Atmos sound that JBL says can fill a room.
