How much would you spend on a pair of speakers? For JBL’s new Summit Everest, the answer is S$199,000 – enough to buy a car or the downpayment for a nice condominium. And if that is a little too much, there is always the Summit K2 at a slightly more “approachable” S$139,000 a pair.
Both loudspeakers are now available in Singapore exclusively through Sound Gallery by IMS, following their world debut at HIGH END Vienna 2026 and subsequent Asia-Pacific unveiling at StereoNET Asia 2026. They sit at the top of JBL’s five-model Summit Series, above the Summit Makalu, Pumori and Ama, although the eye-watering prices begin to make a little more sense once you consider their history.
You see, the Summit Series is only the fifth loudspeaker family in JBL’s 80-year history to carry its “Project” designation. The name was first used for Project Hartsfield in 1954 and later appeared on Project Paragon, Project Everest and Project K2. JBL reserves it for the occasions when it believes it has made a meaningful leap in acoustic engineering, rather than simply giving an existing speaker a new finish and calling it a day.
