Buying your own place at 24 in Singapore is rare, but that’s what Yiting, better known online as Hokkien Girl, did two years ago.
On top of that, she spent around S$100K renovating it.
Now 26, the content creator recently opened the doors to her 721 sq ft, two-room apartment on Kaypoh Room Tours, sharing that she moved into the apartment in August 2024.
“A lot of people will [ask], ‘Ah, you can [buy your own place], like family damn rich or whatever,’ right? But my family is actually quite poor,” she said.
Yiting, who is one of four children, says she started working at 14 and had been saving for years. After graduating, she worked a full-time job while doing content creation on the side.
“I did two jobs at once: I did my strategy consulting full-time role, and I also did content creation at the same time. So both, I would say really chiong, so I think in those one to two years, honestly I wasn’t like living my life, I was just like a money-making machine,” she recounted.
She revealed that her family circumstances were what ultimately pushed her to leave home relatively young.
Yiting didn’t elaborate on what those circumstances were but said: “I was given an ultimatum to either like stay at home and accept the family situation as it was, or just move out and live my own life. So I chose the latter.”
And after working so hard to get her own place, you’d think Yiting would at least claim the master bedroom for herself.
