SINGAPORE – The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings all across Singapore are now in the unhealthy band, with measurements for the north and south joining the other three regions in that zone.
As at 9pm, the readings were:
-
North: 103 (up by 3 from 8pm)
-
South: 101 (up by 3)
-
East: 109 (up by 2)
-
West: 125 (up by 2)
PM2.5 readings, which are used as a gauge for immediate activities, were similarly elevated in all five regions across Singapore:
-
North: 89 (down by 23 from 8pm)
-
South: 78 (down by 8)
-
East: 83 (down by 32)
-
West: 94 (up by 9)
-
Central: 117 (down by 26)
Air quality is considered unhealthy when the 24-hour PSI is in the range of 101 to 200, while an hourly PM2.5 reading between 56 and 150 indicates an elevated concentration of fine particles.
The PSI – a 24-hour rolling average of six key air pollutants and used in planning for outdoor activities the next day – had begun an upward trajectory at midnight on Oct 5.
PSI readings remained in the unhealthy range in central and western Singapore for most of Oct 5. Air quality in eastern Singapore also reached unhealthy levels as at 6pm.
Dry conditions are expected to continue over Singapore and the surrounding region on Oct 5. The risk of haze affecting the Republic remains as the prevailing winds are expected to blow from the south-east or south-west.
