Meta unveils the Muse Charm, a tamagotchi-like device that lets you talk to Muse AI

Anyone remember tamagotchis? Mark Zuckerberg does, apparently. In the Meta Connect 2026 event that recently concluded, the company announced something out of left-field – a tamagotchi-like handheld device called the Muse Charm.

As you’d expect, the Muse Charm serves as a dedicated device to talk to Meta’s Muse AI agent, without needing to open a browser or download an app. On stage, Zuckerberg emphasised that Meta packed the entire “Muse experience” into the Charm, including real-time voice and the Muse AI avatar that was also showcased at Meta Connect.

This means that the Muse Charm should be capable of everything Muse AI can do, including setting and tracking goals for you, acting as a sounding board for your ideas, creating travel plans, purchasing items, and more. Considering that you need to sign up for Muse to use the Charm, however, your usage of it will likely be limited to how many tokens you get in your Muse subscription.

Given that it’s a dedicated device and not an app on a phone, it’s unclear whether it’ll have the integration with third-party services that Meta touts Muse as having. We also don’t know how exactly it’ll connect to the internet when you’re out and about, though it’s not a stretch to assume it’ll have a Wi-Fi chip inside.

In fact, we don’t have many details about the Muse Charm, though we can make a few inferences. A fingerprint sensor on the top right corner allows you to talk to Muse (whose avatar is shown on the small display), so we know that there’s at least an on-board microphone, plus biometrics to ensure some form of security.

The jury’s still out on whether the device will have a camera, though if it does, it’s at least more conspicuous than the cameras on Meta’s glasses. 

Speaking of which, Zuckerberg commented that the Charm will be the fastest way to talk to Muse without Meta’s AI glasses. With the company announcing a camera-free version of Ray Bans at Meta Connect, the Charm is also conveniently situated to show the company’s concern about privacy, following the controversy surrounding cameras in Meta’s glasses and how it’s too easy to discretely record with them.

Zuckerberg noted that the Charm isn’t finalised yet, with the external material’s finishing needing a bit of work. However, he did state that the Charm will be available come the holiday season this December.
