A dedicated Battlefield 6 fan has compared maps from across the series, revealing that the newest game has some of the tightest quarters. EA’s latest effort in the long-running FPS franchise had a lot to live up to, and while it has largely put the property back on the map, players still have some nitpicks with the title. Battlefield 6‘s multiplayer maps have drawn particular scrutiny, and now it’s clear that it’s not just gamers’ imaginations.
The latest in the Battlefield lineup has gotten off to a blistering start. It took just five days for Battlefield 6 to sell over 7 million copies, earning hundreds of millions in gross revenue. Still, not everything has gone as devs would’ve liked, with some issues persisting since the open beta.
Scale Comparison Reveals Battlefield 6 Maps Are Among the Series’ Smallest
Redditor ClaraTheRed posted a detailed breakdown of multiplayer maps from Battlefield 3, 4, Hardline, 1, 2042, and 6, showcasing how Battlefield 6 falls on the smaller size. Players have complained about Battlefield 6‘s small maps since before the full game was out, and now, thanks to this comparison, they have some validation. It’s not just that the arenas feel smaller. They actually have far less playable room to move in compared to some of the franchise’s most popular titles, even if a couple of maps break from that trend and offer a relatively large space.
While Operation Firestorm and Mirak Valley fall within the top half of the series’ map sizes, the rest of Battlefield 6‘s are on the other side of things. When adjusting for playable space, not just overall area, four of the game’s maps (Siege of Cairo, Iberian Offensive, Empire State, and Saints Quarter) are in the smallest five among the studied titles. Only Battlefield 3‘s Ziba Tower is smaller than those four. Notably, Battlefield 3 and 4, which fans consider to be some of the best Battlefield games for gameplay, offer many of the franchise’s largest maps.
Several users in the comments suggested that the issue with Battlefield 6‘s small maps isn’t necessarily their size alone. Rather, they pointed out how many are small but are also fairly open and straightforward, leading to chaotic gameplay and not enough spaces to hide behind or think creatively about movement. EA has confirmed Battlefield 6 will introduce new maps throughout Season 1, and more are certain to come in future seasons, so it’ll be interesting to see if devs address these concerns. For now, though, anyone claiming the game’s arenas are too small now has the data to back it up.
