Grand Theft Auto 6 fans believe its nudist resort was inspired by a real-life location, and its owners are already being bombarded with problematic reviews.
As if there was ever any doubt, GTA 6 fans are all over Rockstar Games’ new video game. They’ve measured oxygen levels in hopes of predicting big reveals, showed up for Netflix announcements, and now, they’ve discovered what they believe was the inspiration for one of the many locations they’ll visit in-game this November: Kissimmee, Florida’s Cypress Cove Nudist Resort (via GamesRadar).
Fans tracking down the locations behind some of their favorite video game levels is nothing new; Arc Raiders fans did something similar in January. But where the sleuthing for some games has often resulted in real-world positivity, Cypress Cove Nudist Resort isn’t enjoying the increased visibility brought by GTA 6.
“For anyone wondering about the suddenly recurring references to ‘Jason Duval,’ ‘Lucia,’ binoculars, a pool, firearms, and other suspiciously similar details — those are references to Grand Theft Auto VI,” the site owner said in response to just one of the many reviews that have shown up on the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort Google page recently. “Yes. A video game.”
The owner, which has already taken what action it can against the reviews, said the influx of reviews is a “coordinated series of fabricated posts using GTA VI references.” They then allege that some posts were followed by requests that the rest “pay money to have the reviews changed or removed.”
Their message continued, stating, “we will not pay” and “we will not negotiate,” confirming it had “documented the reviews and the request for payment.” It added, “This activity is being reported through the appropriate channels.”
“For our actual guests and anyone researching Cypress Cove: please understand that these posts do not describe genuine guest experiences at our resort,” the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort’s Google representative said. “And to whoever is behind them: We appreciate the commitment to the GTA storyline, but Cypress Cove is located in Florida — not Leonida.”
