Final Fantasy VII Revelation release date announced

Square Enix has finally put a date on the conclusion to its lengthy Final Fantasy VII remake project. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on 8 April 2027, almost exactly seven years after the first instalment, Remake, arrived on the PlayStation 4.

Unlike Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, which made their debuts as PlayStation exclusives, Revelation will be released simultaneously for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The date was announced during the latest PlayStation State of Play, together with a new trailer and a longer look at the gameplay. You can check them out below.

This is the third and final game in the remake trilogy, but anyone who has followed Cloud’s increasingly complicated journey will know that calling it a remake isn’t entirely accurate. The story will once again revolve around Cloud and his companions pursuing Sephiroth, but with several unanswered questions left hanging after the ending of Rebirth.

As we can see in the trailer, the Highwind airship will play a major part in exploration, allowing players to travel around what Square Enix describes as a much larger open world than the previous two games. Piko the chocobo will also return as both a mount and a combat companion, while certain quests can be assigned to different party members, potentially changing how their accompanying scenes unfold. And yes, our favourite mini-game Queen’s Blood is coming back too.

Pre-orders have already opened, with several physical and digital editions available. The pricier Premium editions include 24-hour early access and a Story Expansion Pass containing two future story DLCs. Singapore pricing has not been announced at the time of writing.

After beginning in 2020, Square Enix’s ambitious retelling will therefore conclude during the original Final Fantasy VII’s 30th-anniversary year – and I for one, cannot wait.
