Marvel Secretly Developing New Live-Action Disney+ Project, Potentially Young Avengers or New Mutants

A flurry of reports point to Marvel secretly mounting a new live-action Disney+ series, potentially featuring characters from the Young Avengers or New Mutants.

Last month, Murphy’s Multiverse spotted that a fresh Marvel production company, Veil Productions, had been set up for a TV project. Now, there’s also word on its production codename: “Slumber Party.”

Marvel typically sets up a production company for each of its major projects, and these can be named something referencing the project itself. (Marvel’s recent “Throttle Productions” is believed to be the team behind Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Ghost Rider, for example.) So too with its production codenames, though these can also be deliberately obtuse.

Any new Disney+ live-action series confirmation would be notable at this point, following the noticable slowdown in new Marvel (and Star Wars) live-action series getting the greenlight. After years of pumping out projects that left fans feeling like the studio was focused on quantity rather than quality (Secret Invasion, looking at you), Disney appears to have reigned in its balance sheet, while Marvel looks to be applying more quality control.

The timing for a Young Avengers project would also seem to make sense, perhaps focusing on the characters during or directly preceding the events of Avengers: Doomsday, making for a intriguing setup to Avengers: Secret Wars.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Noah Jupe had joined the cast of Avengers: Secret Wars in a hush-hush role that fans already believed they have sussed out.
