Sonos launches new Beam Ultra soundbar, Ace Ultra headphones & OS

Upgraded headphones for an even better experience

We thought Sonos’ first attempt at headphones was impressive, and the brand is now coming out swinging with the Sonos Ace Ultra, with even tighter integration into the Sonos system. 

The Ace Ultra gets all-new 40mm drivers that are designed by Sonos, an upgraded 10-microphone array, and up to 35 hours of battery life with ANC on. 

It also gets new hardware in the form of Headphone Engine 2, which lets users link the headphones directly to the Sonos system. A press of a button pushes whatever’s playing on the system to the headphones, and another press pulls it back onto the speakers from the headphones.

The Sonos Ace Ultra retails at S$699, and comes in four colourways: Black, White, Agave and Sand. Preorders start from 2 September 2026 at TCAcoustic.asia, Sonos Flagship Store @ Wheelock Place, and TC Flagship Store @ The Adelphi. Preorders of selected colours on Lazada and Shopee will start from 15 September onwards, with general availability beginning on 29 September. 

Software to tie it all together

But aside from the exciting new products, Sonos is launching the latest version of its operating system, Sonos 27. It comes with new features such as system control using any AI, a new assistant, a redesigned app, and a more convenient way to move sound around the home. 

Sonos 27voice is the company’s new assistant that’s built for music curation, while Sonos 27mcp will let users connect any external AI assistant or agent to the system, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT. With it, users will be able to ask ChatGPT to play music from their phone or other device without having to open music streaming apps and search for tracks. 

Sonos Custom Agents will let users create their own agents in the system, with customised models, personas and voices. 

Additionally, while Sonos Fabric is just a new name for the speaker grouping capability, it is what enables the new Sonos Ace Ultra’s ability to push and pull sound between speakers and the headphones.

Sonos Positioning Technology is another feature that enables the new portable surrounds feature. This feature uses high-frequency sounds to locate speakers and change their roles in the system based on where they’re positioned. 

Compatible rear speakers will automatically become rear surrounds once they’re moved into position, which saves users the trouble of having to manually set it up. 

The Sonos 27app is also getting upgraded, with improvements and a more intuitive experience. Both the Sonos 27app and portable surrounds feature will begin rolling out on 8 September 2026, while the AI features will only be available at a later date. The Headphone Linking feature for the Sonos Ace Ultra will roll out on 29th September.
