Warlock Won’t Have One of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Most Beloved D&D Mechanics

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the best Dungeons & Dragons video game of all time, and anyone trying to argue otherwise has a tall order on their hands. It embodies everything D&D stands for: freedom and player choice, a branching narrative, and skill checks represented by so, so many dice rolls.

One aspect of Larian Studios’ masterpiece that players love most is its romance options. However, despite the fact Warlock is another AAA D&D game in the works, it won’t be following suit. Sorry, horny folks on the internet: that means you can’t watch Kaatri and Tasha get it on.

In an interview at Gamescom 2026, Dominic Guay, studio head at Invoke Studios, told Polygon that “romancing is out of the question for now in her life,” because “she has a quest that she’s really dead set on.” While it’s still an open-world game, Warlock is much narrower in terms of player choice than Baldur’s Gate 3, so there’s just one core story to experience.

“She will meet other characters, not just monsters,” Guay continued. “She’ll kind of have a found family.” He highlighted Skev, an imp who accompanies Kaatri throughout her journey, as an example: “There’s going to be a growing relationship there, but she’s also going to meet other characters, but there’s no actual romancing options within those relationships.”
