This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 25, 2026, and we’re gearing up for a celebration of lanterns and wholesome reunions, full moon in tow. Of course, the festivities are not complete without the star of the season: mooncakes. Across the island, bakeries, restaurants and hotels are putting out their most exquisite collections yet. Some are sticking to the basics, while others are going all out with inventive flavours like durian kunafa, cempedak, pink guava and many more. Whether you’re team baked or team snowskin, team lotus paste or team durian, this year’s selection has it all. We’ve rounded up the most promising spots to get your mooncake fix this year, from traditional bakeries and Teochew mooncake specialists, to luxurious, elegant sets sure to impress any guest or client.

A true household name, Chinatown Tai Chong Kok Confectionery Hue Kee has been around for over three decades, with outlets in Aljunied, Alexandra Village and Chinatown. The Alexandra Village store is delightfully old-school – cash-only, no frills – and keeps regulars coming back for its preservative-free mooncakes that have remained consistent in quality over the years. They pride themselves on using ingredients like superior-grade lotus seed from Hunan, Chinese olive kernels, bromate-free flour and cholesterol-free groundnut oil.

Look out for classics like the lotus and low-sugar white lotus mooncakes, as well as mini lotus versions and flavours like the savoury assorted seeds and ham, rose petal red bean with melon seeds, and salty sweet green bean with melon seeds. They’ve also got modern snowskin variations, stuffed with lotus paste and macadamia, black sesame paste, jasmine green tea, and even an alcoholic range which sees truffle and chocolate ganache mooncakes spiked with champagne, rum and raisin, lychee martini or Baileys.

Mandarin Oriental always delivers on packaging, and this year, the hotel reunites with Hong Kong luxury fashion house Shanghai Tang for its second Mid-Autumn collaboration. Moonlit Elegance is inspired by the fashion brand’s jasmine flower motif, and the elegant green box doubles up as a jewellery case, complete with a built-in mirror. You’ll also find two fine bone china dessert plates and matching forks to enjoy the mooncakes with.

The assorted nuts with royal chilli sauce is a fun, highly addictive twist on the classic mixed nuts mooncake, with a nice texture and crunch plus a subtle spicy kick. The black sesame with mochi comes with a rich, nutty paste and a chewy mochi encased within, while the classic white lotus paste mooncake is equally well done, with a smooth, silky consistency and well-balanced filling that doesn’t tip into overly sweet territory.
