It’s a big day for Apple Silicon and the Mac. Today marks the debut of Apple’s new M6 chip, which is particularly significant because it’s the first Apple chip to be built on a 2nm process. This new chip will make its debut in the Mac mini, which is also getting refreshed. First, let’s talk about M6.
The M6 is Apple’s first 2nm chip. By switching to a smaller process, it allows Apple to cram more transistors without negatively impacting die size.

At the heart of the M6 is a new CPU core configuration. It now has 12 CPU cores made up of 2 super cores, 4 performance cores, and 6 efficiency cores. Apple claims it will deliver 20% faster multi-threaded performance compared to M5. M6 also features a new dual 16-core Neural Engine.
To match the CPU, M6 features a 12-core GPU, which Apple claims delivers two times the graphics performance of a Mac mini with the M4 chip. The GPU cores feature Neural Accelerators, which is a first for a Mac mini.
