Former Cathay cinema operator MM2 Asia ordered to partially settle unpaid CPF contributions

SINGAPORE: Former Cathay Cineplexes operator MM2 Asia and its subsidiary MM2 Entertainment were on Wednesday (Aug 19) given a final adjournment to make partial payments towards more than S$260,000 (US$204,000) in outstanding Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions.

MM2 Asia faces three charges of failing to pay CPF contributions for one employee from November 2025 to January 2026, while MM2 Entertainment faces eight charges involving four employees for November and December 2025.

Charge sheets did not state the amounts owed, but the court heard that MM2 Asia had about S$22,000 in outstanding contributions, while MM2 Entertainment owed about S$241,000.

The cases come as mainboard-listed MM2 Asia grapples with financial difficulties and undergoes restructuring, with millions of dollars in debts to creditors and repayment demands from landlords over the now-shuttered Cathay Cineplexes chain, which it operated.

Cathay Cineplexes ceased operations after MM2 Asia announced on Sep 1, 2025 that it would enter creditors’ voluntary liquidation amid financial difficulties.
