Experts and wildlife advocates say the success of a sterilisation programme also depends on factors beyond population control.

Primatologist Andie Ang said it is important to ensure there are sufficient habitats remaining for the native species and that monkey guarding efforts are carried out consistently in hotspot areas.

Dr Ang, who chairs the Raffles’ Banded Langur Working Group, also highlighted the need to engage residents living near macaque habitats.
