SINGAPORE – More than 470 people addicted to vaping and etomidate have turned to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for help since September 2025.
Many had tried to quit vaping on their own, but found it difficult.
Some also lost their jobs because of their addiction.
IMH said that from Sept 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, 141 people enrolled in the QuitVape programme at its National Addictions Management Service (NAMS) clinic.
The national rehabilitation programme is free for Singaporeans and permanent residents, and consists of four individual and two group counselling sessions.
The standardised programme helps vape users identify triggers, discuss coping strategies and develop a relapse prevention plan, among other methods.
Aside from QuitVape, another 334 people were placed on IMH’s Mandatory Etomidate Rehabilitation Programme.
This was in lieu of prosecution, with the programme focused on education, counselling and support to help etomidate offenders overcome their addiction.
