Thermaltake has launched its new AX 3200W Platinum Power Supply, a new PSU that, as you can probably tell, breaks the 3000W barrier. The wattage that this new PSU supplies is twice as much as the ones that weâre used to, though that isnât to say this is a new product category â Asus and Corsair have put out their own 3000W PSUs, for instance. Though, 3200W is the highest weâve seen so far.
If youâre wondering for what purpose Thermaltake has decided to launch this, the answer is somewhat predictable: Itâs meant for users running machine learning models locally on a workstation with multiple GPUs.
For reference, the TDP of an RTX 5090 is around 575W. While TDP isnât the end-all-be-all power draw figure, this PSU can supply four RTX 5090s with ample power for other components and overhead. The AX 3200W is emblematic, then, of the power consumption costs that need to be factored if you ever decide to set up some kind of local AI workstation on your own.
