On the Menu | How Argentina’s 2026 World Cup meltdowns over losing echo restaurant award tantrums


Like many, I recently watched the Spain vs Argentina final of the Fifa World Cup 2026. For all that the former’s solid sense of teamwork shone through the 120-plus minutes, the game was ultimately blighted by some of the worst examples of sportsmanship (or lack thereof) from the Argentine squad.

There was a collective sense of Schadenfreude as Enzo Fernandez was sent off for his brutish antics on the pitch, but that was not the end of the aggression.

Argentina’s lasting legacy from this particular season will be one defined by the petulance of Leandro Paredes’ man-child strop after the final whistle as he went for the throat of a Spanish player, and the entire team standing disrespectfully with their backs facing the winners on the podium.
