Razer upgrades its Seiren V3 Chroma with a 32-bit DSP

If you haven’t been keeping track, Razer has about three different kinds of microphones currently in its Seiren lineup: the Seiren V3 Mini, the V3 Chroma and the V3 Pro. To add to this list, the company is debuting the Seiren V3 Chroma 32-bit DSP.

Compared to the standard Seiren V3 Chroma, its biggest addition is the 32-bit digital signal processor that’s built into the microphone. The previous V3 Chroma, for reference, used a 24bit/96kHz DSP for processing audio. 

With the new 32bit/96kHz DSP version, the higher bit depth support means greater dynamic range and less chance of distortion. Razer states that the max SPL and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on the 32-bit Seiren have been raised to 120 dB and 110 dB respectively (up from 110 dB and 96 dB of the 24-bit Seiren).

Although the higher SPL and SNR values don’t mean the mic is incapable of clipping, it does offer some extra headroom when recording audio that’s incredibly dynamic in volume. Streamers and content creators, the target audiences Razer is gunning for with this mic, can get away with sudden volume changes (say, room tone to excited shouting) without having to ride the gain dial.

In post, you might also be able to boost audio that was recorded with the gain set to a low level, without also lifting up too much noise.

Other than the new DSP, additional features include built-in AI noise reduction, and automatic EQ, compression and limiting. The microphone capsule itself seems unchanged from the 24-bit Seiren V3 Chroma – a 16mm supercardioid condenser with a -34 dB sensitivity.

As for the other non-audio features of the mic, a touch sensor on the top of the mic, with tap-to-mute and assignable double and triple-tap functions. The microphone still uses USB-C, no XLR connection for the Seiren line just yet. Finally, the 32-bit Seiren keeps the funky Chroma RGB of the standard 24-bit mic, as well as reactive lighting.

Availability and Pricing

The Razer Seiren V3 Chroma 32-bit DSP is available now on Razer’s website, as well as in RazerStores and select retailers. It’ll cost S$169 for the Black version, and S$179 for the White and Quartz versions. Given that these prices are cheaper than the regular Seiren V3 Chroma, and the fact that the standard version is over two years old now, Razer might be positioning the 32-bit version as its replacement, in place of an all-out Seiren V4.
