Man arrested for suspected involvement in illegal discharge of fireworks at Tiong Bahru carpark


SINGAPORE – A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly setting off fireworks illegally at a multi-storey HDB carpark in Tiong Bahru on Oct 26.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, the police said they were alerted to the incident at Block 131A Kim Tian Road at about 10.30pm that day.

No injuries were reported, the police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

A witness to the incident, Ms Sultani, told ST she was alerted by the noise at around 10.30pm that day.

The 18-year-old student said she saw a man setting off fireworks at the top floor of the multi-storey carpark, adding that he was taking videos of the pyrotechnic display from a distance.

A 26-second video uploaded on TikTok showed the fireworks going off at the parking lots on the top floor of the carpark, which is next to some HDB blocks.
