A woman was sentenced on Oct 27 to a one-year probation for making a police report falsely accusing a man of rape, after he refused to give her $1,200 following their sexual encounter.

Claris Ling Min Rui, 20, must remain indoors from 10pm to 6am every day, and perform 60 hours of community service as part of her sentence.

She had earlier pleaded guilty to one count each of harassment and giving false information to a public servant.

Her parents had to pay a $5,000 bond to ensure her good behaviour.

State Prosecuting Officer (SPO) Teo Keng Beng told the court that the 43-year-old man got to know Ling through a dating platform, and they later communicated via messaging platform Telegram.

On March 18, they met for a date, with the man agreeing to pay Ling $200 for her time.
