Swee Choon Tim Sum: A Local Ang Moh’s Go-To for Dim Sum As a local ang moh in Singapore, I’ve tried a fair few dim sum places in my time, but Swee Choon Tim Sum? Now, that’s something special. It’s at 183 Jalan Besar, Singapore 208882, so if you know the area, there’s really no excuse to miss it. @Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant And let’s be honest, Singapore has plenty of dim sum spots, but this one stands out for two very important reasons: 1. Handmade Dim Sum Done Right: Fresh, comforting & full of flavour. You take one bite & suddenly the day feels a bit less offensive. It’s the kind of food that doesn’t need to shout because it already knows it’s good. 2. Signatures You Can’t Get Anywhere Else: Xiao Long Bao, Tofu Bomb, Mee Sua Kway & Mantou Sticks with Chilli Crab that actually pull their weight. Big flavours, generous portions & dishes that feel like they were made by someone who respects your appetite. It’s simple, it’s hearty & it’s exactly what you need when you’re craving something warm, satisfying & genuinely worth leaving the house for. What Makes Swee Choon Tim Sum Special? Swee Choon Tim Sum isn’t just another dim sum shop. Established in 1962, it’s the kind of place that reminds you why this food matters in the first place. The dumplings, the signatures & the sides all come together in a way that just works, in that quietly brilliant way only Singaporean comfort food can. The Xiao Long Bao: Look, dim sum lives or dies by the XLB. If the soup dumpling is weak, the whole thing falls apart. But this one absolutely delivers. Pierce it gently, sip the soup first & then finish the rest. Rich, comforting & packed with flavour without scalding your mouth. You get depth, you get comfort & you get that proper satisfying finish that makes you keep going back for another one even when you told yourself you were done. The Tofu Bomb: We had the signature tofu bomb & it was spot on. Deep fried tofu packed with fresh prawn & greenery on the inside. No nonsense, no strange aftertaste & no pretending. Just good ingredients done right, giving you the sort of bite that makes you stop talking for a second. And yes, all nutritional value has left the building. But we’re not here for healthy food. We’re here for a good time. The Mee Sua Kway: Noodles pressed together & pan fried into something genuinely special. Crispy on the outside, soft & flavourful on the inside. Nothing feels thrown together for the sake of it. Everything is there for a reason & that makes a difference. It gives the whole meal that generous, well thought through feeling that separates decent dim sum from dim sum you actually remember. The Other Stuff: And this is where Swee Choon starts getting cheeky. The Salted Egg Custard Bao is rich and golden with a custard that perfectly balances out the salt, the Chicken Claw is braised in black bean sauce in the best possible way & the Mantou Sticks with Chilli Crab are just plain fun. Thick, loaded with crab meat & the kind of dish that makes you go wah out loud. Even the chilli crab sauce has that addictive quality where you tell yourself one more dip & then somehow the whole plate disappears. Way Better Than Your Average Dim Sum Spot Let’s be real here. A lot of dim sum places are more about the mood than the actual food. Nice idea, average execution. Swee Choon Tim Sum is different. It does not rely on gimmicks, trendy nonsense or the hope that you’ll be too distracted to notice the food is just okay. It gives you what you came for: soupy dumplings, crispy signatures, unique bites & sides that are actually worth ordering. That’s what makes it hit harder than your average dim sum spot. It feels honest. It feels generous. And most importantly, it tastes like a place that knows exactly what it’s doing — and has done since 1962. If you’re looking for no-nonsense, authentic dim sum, Swee Choon Tim Sum is the place to go. #sweechoon #sweechoondimsum #timsum #sgfoodie #sgeats
