Born without fingers on his left hand, Poon Sum Hay, 70, nevertheless learnt how to make traditional sachima from his father, a first-gen hawker. It takes up to seven hours to make a batch of sachima via a very labour-intensive process. “Once you get the hang of it, it’s the same,” says Mr Poon of his disability. He regularly draws queues for his stall, which is one of the rare places where you can still get this old-school snack. Recently diagnosed with colon cancer, Mr Poon is still undergoing chemotherapy after a six-month break, but decided to return to work as he declares: “I’m very bored!” #8dayseathawker #sachima #sgfoodie #foodtok #tiktoksg
