Why a 50km ultra-marathon on ‘magical’ 5-day Easter Island holiday is a race like no other



Wherever I travel, I love to immerse myself in a new place on foot. It is the best way to notice the detail, experience the sights, smells and sounds first hand, and get a real sense of everyday life there.

So when I heard about a run-cation on Rapa Nui – also known as Easter Island – I knew this was just the trip for me.
Organised by event company Rat Race, it is a five-day tour of the small, remote Pacific island famous for its monolithic stone humanoid monuments that brings together landscape, heritage and spiritual well-being.

On the fourth day, there is a 50km (31-mile) run/hike, which is structured like a race but is not officially timed.
