If you have ever walked around Redhill Close, you will know the towering trees are just as much a part of the neighbourhood as the HDB blocks themselves.
Now, some residents fear those leafy giants could soon disappear.
Concerned residents recently took to social media after spotting labels placed on several mature trees around Redhill Close.
According to one resident, the markings look strikingly similar to those that appeared on another cluster of trees before five mature trees in the area were felled two years ago.
“It looks like the beautiful old trees at Redhill Close might be in danger,” the resident wrote in a Facebook post.
“NParks has recently placed labels on them, two years ago right before five massive trees on the other side were chopped down. We need to act fast to save the remaining greenery that defines our neighbourhood,” he added.
The concerns come just as nearby Tiong Bahru has seen several mature trees removed.
According to a notice issued by HDB, six trees along Eng Watt Street were recently felled to facilitate construction of a new car park.
The notice stated that the trees’ roots had caused the driveway to heave, creating potential safety hazards.
