Tatiana Maslany’s acclaimed run of performances continues, with the Orphan Black and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law alum currently starring in Apple TV’s Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. The actress stopped by IGN Live today to talk about the series, along with debuting a new clip from the show.
The series stars Maslany as the newly divorced mom Paula (Maslany) as she falls down a dangerous rabbit hole of blackmail, murder and youth soccer after she’s convinced she’s witnessed a crime after enjoying a little quality time online with a camboy. As you can see in the clip, Paula finds herself in one particularly precarious situation that escalates considerably when she grabs a nail gun.
Regarding that scene, Maslany told the IGN Live audience, “I feel like she’s not a fighter at all so she’s sort of desperately grabbing for whatever’s around,” noting Paula’s already used a tuna can as a weapon, with other random objects always at the ready.
Maslany said that Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed took some influence from the Coen Brothers and movies like Fargo, which boasted “Strange, surreal comedy even though the subject matter is really dark,” noting she enjoyed that “tonally, this show kind of lives in a hard to pin down place.”
