Essentially serving as an amusing, Pixar-animated nod to Disney’s own Avatar franchise, Hoppers follows the story of Mabel (Piper Curda), a young animal loving college student who manages to get her hands on tech that “hops” her into the body of an animal–in Mabel’s case, the body of a robotic beaver. Having befriended the non-human residents of the little patch of nature in which the film takes place, Mabel must stop local politician Mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) from building a freeway over her new friends’ home.
Hoppers marks Pixar’s first major sci-fi film since 2008’s Wall-E, currently holds a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and enjoyed a profitable opening weekend with plenty of critical praise.
