CardUp offering 1.77% “follow-up fee” for personal payments

There is no minimum or maximum amount that can be paid, though all payments must be made with a Singapore-issued Visa or UnionPay card.

If you completed your tax payment recently, your account may not yet be eligible for the 177BONUS code. According to the T&Cs, the code is meant to be sent out within seven business days, so give it some time and try again.

What’s the cost per mile?

Here’s the cost per mile for various Visa cards in Singapore, given their earn rates and a 1.77% admin fee.

To illustrate how this works, suppose you have a S$1,000 bill and make a one-off payment with CardUp using a 1.77% code:

• S$1,017.70 will be charged to your credit card (S$1,000 bill + 1.77% fee)
• Assuming a 1.4 mpd card, you will earn 1,425 miles (S$1,017.70 x 1.4 mpd; ignoring rounding)
• Given a S$17.70 fee, the cost per mile is 1.24 cents each (S$17.70/1,425 miles)

Remember, both the bill payment amount and the CardUp fee are eligible to earn miles.

Conclusion

CardUp customers who have completed tax payments since 14 April 2026 will be able to make additional personal payments with a 1.77% fee.

However, these payments must be completed by 9 June 2026, so there isn’t a lot of time to act. Remember, CardUp will revise its service fees from 13 June 2026, and we don’t know yet what it will look like (though I’m quite certain it won’t be lower!).
