Steam is testing a new feature called Personal Calendar that could make it much easier for users to find games they’re interested in. The new addition to Steam is available for users to try out now.
With thousands of games launching every year, there’s no shortage of options for gamers, and there are likely plenty that could appeal to them. However, this can also have some drawbacks, as the sheer quantity can be difficult to navigate. This new tool from Steam could help to alleviate some of the problems.
Steam Labs Introduces Personal Calendar For Game Recommendations
Steam has now revealed the Personal Calendar feature, which is currently a Steam Labs experiment. This calendar is special, as it contains only game releases that Steam thinks the player would be interested in. The platform looks at the games that the player has spent the most time on and builds recommendations based on that data, rather than trying to incorporate every game and demo the player has ever played, and the system refreshes its data daily to ensure relevant recommendations. The calendar is designed to not only show upcoming game releases, but those that have recently launched, which could help players to avoid missing any games.
While the Steam Personal Calendar is subject to change as it’s currently a Steam Labs experiment, there are a few details regarding the current version users might want to know. The calendar only lists weekdays, Monday through Friday, as Steam points out that very few games launch on the weekend, so including those days would largely be a waste of space. Further, the calendar is designed to also display games that are on players’ Steam wishlists, even if they don’t necessarily mesh with the games they regularly play, so they don’t miss anything they’ve already designated as being interested in. There’s also a difference in how upcoming and recently released games are displayed. Rather than being on a daily calendar like the upcoming releases, games that have already come out are divided into two sections: one for games released in the last month, and one for games released over the past week. Users can further adjust the calendar and alter how it’s displayed by using customization tools and filters.
As noted, this is currently an experiment of Steam’s, and the platform is looking for feedback from users. Those who have any input on the feature can share their thoughts on the discussion page for the Steam Labs Personal Calendar experiment.
