2026 MacBook Pro may drop the notch and add a touchscreen

The second and potentially biggest update is the addition of the long-awaited touchscreen functionality. The feature will complement the keyboard and trackpad as an additional input method, made possible by a new hinge design that keeps the display stable when touched.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also shared that the next MacBook Pro could feature an on-cell touch panel, a technology that integrates touch sensors directly into the display. While Apple has historically resisted adding touchscreens to Macs, Kuo believes the company’s shift reflects “long-term observations of iPad user behaviour.”

Before you get too excited, this rumoured version of the MacBook Pro will likely only come in the second half of next year or in early 2027. Adding touchscreen functionality will require a major reworking of macOS, which can only happen after WWDC 2026. Therefore, this new MacBook Pro will likely be powered by Apple’s M6 family of chips.
