Apple iPhone’s micro-curved OLED for 2027

Beyond the gentler curve, Apple is also aiming to adopt Samsung’s latest OLED technology, known as Colour Filter on Encapsulation (CoE). Unlike conventional designs where the colour filter sits above the panel, CoE integrates it directly into the OLED’s protective encapsulation layer.

This approach offers several advantages. By reducing the overall display stack, COE can produce thinner panels that allow more light to pass through, resulting in improved brightness and better power efficiency. To further enhance visual consistency, Apple is also reportedly considering a crater-shaped light-diffusion layer to ensure even illumination across the screen.

With 2027 marking the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, Apple is reportedly planning a “major shake-up” of the lineup. Bloomberg suggests next year’s iPhone Pro could feature a greater use of glass, while The Information reports that Apple is aiming for a true all-screen design.
