Gigabyte has rolled out a new range of power supply units under its Gaming Series banner, and this one feels like it’s arriving at a time when PSU safety is back in the spotlight – especially with high-end GPUs (read: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series) and their increasingly demanding power connectors.
The new PSUs come with a new active thermal monitoring system designed called T-Guard, which Gigabyte says is specifically for the 12V-2×6 connector that are found in NVIDIA’s current-gen GPUs. Instead of relying on passive safeguards, the PSU uses built-in sensors to keep tabs on connector temperatures in real time. If the monitor detects, say, a loose cable or abnormal load, it can step in by reducing power delivery to the GPU, rather than cutting power to the entire system. The idea here is to avoid a full shutdown, giving users a chance to save their work before dealing with the issue.
